I am never one to turn down the opportunity for brunch, so when an invite to have brunch with my favourite people at a new to me restaurant I jumped at the chance. Lakaz Maman is a mauritian restaurant situated on Bedford Place in Southampton and is owned by Shelina Permalloo who won BBC’s MasterChef in 2012.
Shelina started the event by explaining the concept behind Lakaz Maman which is a Mauritian Creole word for ‘Mum’s House’ and that is exactly how it feels like you have popped over to the family for some delicious home cooked food in a relaxing environment.
The restaurant is coming up to its two year anniversary and is run by Shelina and her husband Rashid as well as lovely front of house staff and chefs. All the food is cooked from scratch and all curry powders and hot sauces are blended in house! This is astounding considering Shelina had no professional experience before taking part in MasterChef.
After Shelina gave us all a warm welcome we then set about sampling the food! Everyones brunch looked delicious. I opted for the Breakfast Eggs which were eggs in a spicy tomato sauce served with a warm roti! The second it hit the table, it smelled delicious and tasted equally so. It was just the right amount of spice too!
I was jealous of everyone elses choices as well – in particular the cinnamon toast, Sweetcorn Fritters and Torpedo burgers looked amazing! I might just have to try this again when I make a return trip.
Shelina then answered a few of our questions about Masterchef, life as a working mum and business woman, life in Southampton and business expansion. We ended the event with book signings and selfie taking (standard practice for bloggers) and took away a really cute goody bag which contained, the restaurants signature hot sauce, one of their handmade curry powders and their vegan granola. I can’t wait to try these out!
Thank you to Shelina, Lakaz Maman and SotonBloggers for organising such a beautiful event!
Until Next Time,
Laugh, Love and Shop
